    Q:
What are the steps for installing the driveaxle, and how is the driveaxle position checked for the 1985 Chrysler Laser? Posted by Customer
    A:
To install the driveaxle, follow these steps: Clean the wear sleeve on the outer CV joint and the seal in the hub. Lubricate the seal lip and fill the seal cavity with grease. Apply grease to the wear sleeve seal contact area. Apply multi-purpose grease to the splines at each end of the driveaxle. Carefully insert the inner end of the shaft into the transaxle. Push the steering knuckle out and insert the outer splined shaft of the CV joint into the hub. Rejoin the balljoint stud to the steering knuckle, install the clamp bolt, and tighten it to the specified torque. Install the sway bar ends (if removed) and the speedometer gear. Install the wheels, washers, and axle nuts, tightening the driveaxle nuts to the specified torque and installing the wave washers, nut locks, and new cotter pins. To check the driveaxle position, ensure the vehicle is completely assembled, the front wheels are properly aligned and pointing straight ahead, and the weight of the vehicle is on all four wheels. Use a tape measure to check the distance from the inner edge of the outboard boot to the inner edge of the inboard boot on both driveaxles at the lower edge. If the dimensions are not as specified, the engine mount bolts can be loosened and the engine repositioned to obtain the correct driveaxle lengths.
