    Q:
How to remove and install Drive Shaft on Dodge Avenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
The manufacturer recommends replacing driveshaft fasteners with new ones when installing the driveshaft. First, raise the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands, placing the shift selector lever in Neutral. Use chalk or a scribe to index the relationship of the driveshaft to the differential pinion yoke and the flange at the transfer case. Then, remove the three fasteners and disconnect the rear driveshaft rubber coupler from the rear axle flange, supporting the rear of the driveshaft. Next, remove the center support heat shield and remove the bolts attaching the driveshaft center support to the vehicle, supporting the center of the driveshaft. Remove the front Constant Velocity (CV) joint bolts and washers from the transfer case, supporting the front of the driveshaft. If the front CV joint will not break free from the transfer case flange, use a brass drift and a hammer to carefully drive the CV joint out from the flange. Then, remove the driveshaft from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal, making sure the marks you made previously are aligned and the fasteners are tightened.
