Q:
How to remove and install a driveshaft? Posted by Customer
A:
To replace the rear driveshaft, lift the vehicle and mark the driveshaft's position. Remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential pinion flange. Pry the universal joint away and lower the driveshaft. If it's a one-piece, slide it out of the transmission housing; if it's a two-piece, mark the center support bearing's position, unbolt it, and slide the front end out. Cover the extension housing with a plastic bag. To install, remove the bag, clean the area, and inspect the oil seal and center support bearing. Insert the driveshaft into the housing, raise it into position, and check alignment marks. If it's a two-piece, loosely bolt the center support bearing. Raise the rear end, align marks, remove tape from bearing caps, and install clamps and fasteners. For 4WD models, mark the driveshaft's position, remove bolts and straps, make alignment marks, unbolt the flange, and remove the driveshaft.
