    Q:
What are the steps and considerations for replacing shock absorbers and coil springs on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
These vehicle models are equipped with shock absorber/coil spring assemblies, allowing for individual replacement of shocks or springs, though disassembly by a qualified repair shop with proper equipment is necessary, which can significantly increase project costs. For SRT models, a unique front shock absorber system uses several accelerometers to monitor the shock, with the ADS "Active Damping System" adjusting the shocks based on road conditions and vehicle angle through the ADCM "Active Damping Control Module." The ADS shock absorber is serviced similarly to non-SRT models, except for disconnecting three wire electrical connections from the shock. To remove the shock absorber, first, take off the cap on the shock tower (if equipped) and remove the fasteners attaching the upper end of the shock to the frame. Next, loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands before removing the front wheels. Disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the shock assembly, then remove the fasteners attaching the lower end of the shock absorber to the lower control arm. Pull down on the lower control arm and remove the shock absorber toward the rear of the vehicle. Inspect the shock absorber for leaking fluid, dents, cracks, and other damage, as well as the coil spring for chips and cracks that could lead to premature failure, and check the spring seats for hardness and deterioration. If any components are worn or damaged, have the unit serviced or replaced by a qualified repair shop. For installation, raise the lower control arm with a floor jack to simulate normal ride height before tightening the lower shock absorber mounting fasteners, then install in reverse order of removal and ensure all mounting fasteners and wheel lug nuts are tightened to the specified torque.

    Q:
What should be checked when inspecting shock absorbers, and how can fluid leakage be assessed for the 2017 Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
When inspecting shock absorbers, you should: Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Check the shock absorbers for evidence of fluid leakage. A light film of fluid is generally not a concern. However, if noticeable leakage is observed, it's advisable to replace the shocks as a set. Additionally, check that the shocks are securely mounted and free from damage. Inspect the upper mounts for any signs of wear or damage.

    Q:
Is it necessary to disconnect exhaust pipes when servicing load-leveling shock absorbers for the 2015 Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
No, there is no need to disconnect exhaust pipes; simply lower and support them.
