    Start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the three starter motor mounting bolts. Move the starter motor assembly forward far enough for the pinion gear to clear the starter hole and the driveplate ring gear, then tilt the starter downward so that you can reach the electrical terminals on the solenoid. Disconnect the battery cable and electrical connector from the terminals on the starter motor solenoid and remove the starter motor. For installation, reverse the removal steps.

Next, remove the bolt that secures the intermediate steering shaft to the lower steering coupling shaft and separate the two shafts. Remove the three starter mounting bolts and the oil cooler line clip. To remove the starter, pull it forward and down, work it up over the exhaust pipe, then work it past the disconnected steering shafts. For installation, reverse the removal steps and don't forget to reattach the oil cooler line clip to the middle starter mounting bolt.
