If a defective proportioning valve is suspected, the system should be checked out by a local dealer service department or other qualified repair shop.

To replace the valves, the rear of the vehicle should be raised and supported securely on jackstands. The front wheels should be blocked to prevent the vehicle from rolling. The valve assembly should be located above the rear axle attached to the left side of the frame rail. The brake lines should be loosened from the proportioning valve with a flare-nut wrench to prevent rounding off the corners of the fittings. The ends of the lines should be plugged to prevent loss of brake fluid and the entry of dirt. The mounting bolts should be removed and the valve and bracket should be detached. Installation is the reverse of removal. The brakes should be bled and brake operation should be carefully tested before resuming normal operation.
