There is a brake light switch that is underneath the dash and at the top of the assembly of the brake pedal. You can check to see if voltage is present in a wire between the battery and switch using a test light as part of troubleshooting. Sort out any circuit problems if there is no voltage and if there is, don't be depressed by these lights on your car. On the contrary, they could be due to a fault on your brake pedal. On release, there would be 1 or 2 volts appearing between this switch and any lamp in the brake system; then it needs to be replaced but you must make sure that you count how many volts is coming from your car battery while you are doing it.
