To inspect the throttle body, start by removing the accelerator cable cover. Check that the throttle linkage moves smoothly and if not, examine the routing of the accelerator cable. Next, remove the air intake duct from the throttle body and inspect the area behind the throttle plate for carbon and residue buildup. If dirty, clean it using aerosol carburetor cleaner and a toothbrush, ensuring the cleaner is safe for oxygen sensor systems and catalytic converters. Avoid cleaning the Throttle Position (TP) sensor or the idle Air Control (IAC) valve with solvent. To remove the throttle body, disconnect the accelerator cable, cruise control cable (if equipped), and kick down cable (if equipped with an automatic transaxle). Disconnect the electrical connectors from the IAC valve and TP sensor, as well as the EVAP hose from the throttle body. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the air intake duct. Finally, remove the throttle body, and if replacing it, transfer the IAC valve and TP sensor to the new unit. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the throttle body bolts are tightened to the specified torque.
