On Dodge and Plymouth vehicles, the EGR valve is mounted on the intake manifold right by carburetor and problems with this branch of emissions system originate from a stuck or severely rusted EGR valve. To check the valve, the engine should be off and cold to avoid burns, after thus, one should reach under the EGR valve and push the diaphragm with some pressure such that it can move up and down within the housing. Switch off the hose connected to the valve, then start the engine and use mouth or a hand vacuum pump to apply vacuum to the hose; when the engine stalls or runs roughly when vacuum is applied, then the EGR valve is properly working.
