Chrysler 200 Drive Shaft

The Drive Shaft of Chrysler 200 automobiles is a critical aspect that conveys power and torque from the engine or transmission to the drive wheels and subtlety of power distribution. That is why this Drive Shaft has to be reliable and yet lightweight as it bends and twists to take the torsion and shear stress that it goes through in operation. In most cases it uses universal type joints or splined types to address this issue of misalignment and differences in lengths of shafts. Chrysler 200 models employ the use of Drive Shafts of various designs and these includes one piece as well as the two piece Drive Shafts depending with the type of drivetrain that is being used. The selection of Drive Shaft affects the car's speed and stability especially in the all-wheel drive variations where there is more than one Drive Shaft required to ensure that power is split evenly between the front and rear differentials. Altogether, it can be agreed on a note that the Drive Shaft is a very useful part that can have a positive impact on the Chrysler 200 vehicles.

Chrysler 200 Drive Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install Drive Shaft on Chrysler 200?
A: The manufacturer recommends replacing driveshaft fasteners with new ones when installing the driveshaft. First, raise the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands, placing the shift selector lever in Neutral. Use chalk or a scribe to index the relationship of the driveshaft to the differential pinion yoke and the flange at the transfer case. Then, remove the three fasteners and disconnect the rear driveshaft rubber coupler from the rear axle flange, supporting the rear of the driveshaft. Next, remove the center support heat shield and remove the bolts attaching the driveshaft center support to the vehicle, supporting the center of the driveshaft. Remove the front Constant Velocity (CV) joint bolts and washers from the transfer case, supporting the front of the driveshaft. If the front CV joint will not break free from the transfer case flange, use a brass drift and a hammer to carefully drive the CV joint out from the flange. Then, remove the driveshaft from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal, making sure the marks you made previously are aligned and the fasteners are tightened.
