Chrysler 200 Oxygen Sensor

The Oxygen Sensor in Chrysler 200 vehicles is used to determine the quantity of unburned oxygen in the exhaust gases that a car's engine emits and this is very important in the determination of the right mixture of air that is supposed to be mixed with fuel for efficient combustion to take place and thus reduce emissions. Depending on the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gases it produces voltage signal to the engine control computer which will change the pulse width of fuel injector. It also provides the engine the ability to run in a 'closed loop' which improves the effectiveness of a catalytic converter. Chrysler 200 stock oxygen sensors mainly involve zirconium dioxide based, where at times they use the nB & wB variants. The narrow-band sensors give varying signals of either richness or the leaning nature of the mixture, while the wide-band sensors can make a variety of measurements of the air-fuel mixture. These sensors are known to wear out overtime, especially when contaminated and this leads to more emissions and less fuel consumption. Another critical system in the vehicle is the Oxygen Sensor whose working should be monitored and maintained more often.

Chrysler 200 Oxygen Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How Should I Be Particularly Careful When Servicing an Oxygen Sensor on Chrysler 200?
A: Oxygen sensors are delicate, so handle them carefully. For the 2.4L engine (2014 and earlier), the upstream sensor is near the exhaust manifold, while on all other engines, the left and right upstream sensors are at the top of the Catalytic Converters. The downstream sensors are on the side of each catalytic converter. To remove the sensor, disconnect the wire harness and connector, and unscrew the sensor using a special oxygen sensor socket. Clean the threads of the sensor bore if reusing the old sensor, and apply anti-seize compound to the threads if necessary. Install the sensor and tighten it to the specified torque.
