  Q: How do you remove and reinstall the ignition switch and Ignition Lock Cylinder on Chrysler PT Cruiser?

  A: To decommission the ignition switch the following has to be done; disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, then take out the instrument cluster bezel, centre bezel, lower knee bolster and the steering column. Turn down the steering wheel lever and remove the upper portion of the steering column, next remove the screws that hold the multi-function switch in place and adjust it. Following that, you unscrew the ignition lock cylinder then pull the electrical connector of the ignition switch, and then the Torx head screw that holds the switch to the steering column. Press the two retaining tabs and pull the switch out of the steering column. To reinstall, place the switch in the RUN position, and to reverse the procedure above. On models prior to 2005, incorporate the negative terminal of the battery and insert the ignition key, turn the switch to RUN, and using a small screwdriver press the tab which is bordered in a hole in the lower part of the steering wheel cover to pull out the lock cylinder. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position when reinserting the lock cylinder into the housing, and test the keys. In models from 2006 and later, pull the cable away from the negative terminal of the battery, remove the upper and lower steering column covers and remove the screws which secure the right multi-function switch to the bracket. Slide the switch off the clockspring and set it to the side then lower the steering column and put the key to RUN position. Disconnect the screw which is used to hold the ignition key module onto the ignition lock cylinder, release the module retainer fingers and put the module back at its proper position in the ignition lock cylinder. Last of all, employ a small screwdriver or an awl to apply pressure in the ignition lock cylinder retaining tab and to remove the ignition lock cylinder from the lock cylinder housing.
