Chrysler Sebring Drive Shaft

The Drive Shaft of Chrysler Sebring vehicles can be described as a component that conveys mechanical power and torque from the engine or the transmission, to the drive wheels, by effectively transmitting power. It must be very rigid and at the same time weigh as little as possible to allow it to bear the torsion and shear stress the hub undergoes while in use. Drive Shafts used in Chrysler Sebring come in one or two piece configurations where use of universal joints or splined joints can be made to cater for the alignment and or distance differences. As it relates to Chrysler Sebring, the Drive Shaft refers to the transfer of power from the engine to the rear axle in rear-wheel drive vehicle while transverse shafts in the front-wheel drive. This type of Drive Shaft can however affect performance and safety especially in the all-wheel drive systems that use more than one Drive Shaft to supply power between the front and rear axles.

Chrysler Sebring Drive Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install Drive Shaft on Chrysler Sebring?
A: The manufacturer recommends replacing driveshaft fasteners with new ones when installing the driveshaft. First, raise the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands, placing the shift selector lever in Neutral. Use chalk or a scribe to index the relationship of the driveshaft to the differential pinion yoke and the flange at the transfer case. Then, remove the three fasteners and disconnect the rear driveshaft rubber coupler from the rear axle flange, supporting the rear of the driveshaft. Next, remove the center support heat shield and remove the bolts attaching the driveshaft center support to the vehicle, supporting the center of the driveshaft. Remove the front Constant Velocity (CV) joint bolts and washers from the transfer case, supporting the front of the driveshaft. If the front CV joint will not break free from the transfer case flange, use a brass drift and a hammer to carefully drive the CV joint out from the flange. Then, remove the driveshaft from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal, making sure the marks you made previously are aligned and the fasteners are tightened.
