Chrysler Town & Country Pushrod Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove and install Pushrod and rocker arm in 3.3L and 3.8L V6 engine on Chrysler Town & Country?
A: To remove the valve covers, first loosen each rocker arm shaft bolt gradually until they can be removed by hand, starting with the outer ones. Next, take out the rocker arm and shaft assembly, noting the positioning of the rocker arms, washers, and shaft retainer/spacers if they are removed. Use pliers to grip the edges of the retainer/spacers and pull them straight up off the shaft. Remove the pushrods and store them in order to avoid mixing them up during installation. Inspect each rocker arm for wear, cracks, and damage, particularly at the ball socket pivots and tips, and check the pivot seat and faces for galling and unusual wear patterns; replace any worn or damaged rocker arms and install new pivots or shafts as necessary. For shaft-mounted rocker arms, inspect the shafts for galling and excessive wear, and check the oil holes for plugging. Examine the pushrods for cracks and excessive wear at the ends, rolling each across a piece of plate glass to check for bending. When installing, ensure the longer rocker shaft bolt is placed correctly, and tighten the rocker shafts slowly, starting with the center bolts and moving outward, allowing at least 20 minutes for bleed-down after installation. Lubricate the lower end of each pushrod with clean engine oil or moly-base grease and install them in their original locations, ensuring they seat completely in the lifter socket. Apply moly-base grease to the ends of the valve stems and the upper ends of the pushrods, as well as to the rocker arm shaft. If removed, install the rocker arms, washers, shaft retainer/spacers, and bolts in the correct order, then attach the rocker arm assembly to the cylinder head, tightening the bolts gradually from the center outward to the specified torque while ensuring the pushrods engage properly in the rocker arms. Allow the engine to set for 20 minutes before starting, and finally, install the valve covers.
