Dodge Daytona Distributor

The Distributor of Dodge Daytona vehicles is held responsible for creating an electrical spark of high-voltage current that is pulled from the ignition coil to the spark plugs within the range of the cylinder meeting the firing order. The distributor automatically regulated spark timing in the earlier models through the breaker points and advance weights. With time, the electrical triggering systems supplanted mechanical components for operations that were efficient as well as reliable. Centrifugal and vacuum advance mechanisms are also incorporated in distributors with a purpose of adjusting spark timing according to the speeds of the engine and vacuum pressure. While ordinary distributors are equipped with wear components that need to be adjusted or replaced from time to time, engines of the modern vehicles make use of the so called coil-on-plug system to improve ignition control, power, fuel consumption, and exhaust emissions. Dodge Daytona Distributors come in multi parts and conversion kits for changing the performance as well as the reliability and decreasing the frequency of maintainance.

Dodge Daytona Distributor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Install a Distributor in a Dodge Daytona?
A: Disconnect the negative cable at the battery and place it out of the way. Unplug the distributor pickup coil lead wire at the harness connector. Remove the pick-up lead connector from the retainer on 1984 and 1985 models. Remove the distributor splash shield and loosen the screws to lift off the distributor cap. Rotate the engine with a wrench until the distributor rotor is pointed at the engine block and mark the relationship of the rotor to the distributor body and the distributor to the engine block. Remove the hold-down screw or bolt and carefully lift the distributor out of the engine. Lower the distributor into position, ensuring the gasket or O-ring is seated properly and align the rotor with the mark on the engine block. If necessary, establish the proper relationship between the rotor and the number one piston position by rotating the crankshaft until the piston is at top dead center on the compression stroke. Install the distributor with the rotor pointing at the reference mark and align the distributor body and engine block marks. Install the distributor cap, hold-down bolt, and splash shield. Plug in the pickup coil lead and reconnect the negative battery cable. Check the timing and tighten the distributor hold-down bolt securely.
