Dodge Nitro Evaporator

Usually the Evaporator in Dodge Nitro car is used to cool the climate in the car by absorbing heat from the air. Sited below the dashboard, its function is to release warm air through its small tubes and fins containing liquid refrigerant gas that evaporates and hence cools the air. Further, Evaporator acts as a dehumidifier providing a cooling mode which condenses moisture from the air and it is drained outside the vehicle. Through its usage, Dodge Nitro Evaporators may develop some faults such as leaks, corrosion and clogs that may compel the user to change it. The Evaporator has not undergone any significant change in terms of functionalities although the design has stayed intact offering the expected quality in cooling as well as moisture elimination in all the models. Unfortunately, like any other vehicle, several problems may arise in the Dodge Nitro if not well maintained and can lead to awkward smells or less effective cooling of the car.

Dodge Nitro Evaporator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace an Evaporator in a Heater/Air Conditioning Unit on Dodge Nitro?
A: The evaporator is a small radiator-like component mounted in the heater/air conditioning unit under the dash. It removes heat from the passenger compartment. Have the air conditioning system discharged. Disconnect the cable at the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the heater/air conditioning unit from under the dash area. Turn the heater/air conditioning unit upside down and remove the screws that retain the two halves together. Remove the evaporator from the lower housing. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. If the evaporator was replaced with a new unit, add 1.5 oz (45 ml) of refrigerant oil (of a type designated as compatible it refrigerant R-134a) to the system. Note: New R-134a-compatible O-rings should be use in each fitting during reassembly. Have the system evacuated, recharged and leak tested by a dealer service department or an air conditioning repair facility.
