The engine coolant temperature sensor is a thermistor mounted into an engine water jacket. The change in resistance values directly affects the voltage signal from the sensor to the PCM. As the sensor temperature increases, resistance values decrease, and as the sensor temperature decreases, resistance values increase. On 2.4L four-cylinder engines, the sensor is located on the left side of the front of the cylinder head. On 3.7L V6 engines, the sensor is located on the front of the intake manifold, behind the alternator. To replace the sensor, partially drain the cooling system, disconnect the electrical connector, and unscrew the sensor. Before installing the new sensor, wrap the threads with Teflon sealing tape to prevent leakage and thread corrosion. Installation is the reverse of removal. Finally, refill the cooling system.

The coolant temperature indicator system includes a warning light or temperature gauge on the dash and a coolant temperature sending unit on the engine. The ECT sensor provides information to the PCM. If the indicator light doesn't come on, check for a burned-out bulb, faulty ignition switch, or an open circuit. If the light doesn't go out, check for any stored trouble codes in the PCM. If the engine tends to overheat, check the coolant to ensure it's correctly mixed. For ECT sensor replacement.

For the throttle body temperature sensor, remove the air cleaner, disconnect throttle cables, remove the accelerator cable bracket, unplug the electrical connector from the sensor, remove the sensor, apply heat transfer compound, install the sensor securely, and reverse the steps for reinstallation.

Start by partially draining the cooling system, disconnecting the cable(s) from the negative battery terminal(s), and disconnecting the electrical connector from the ECT sensor.

The sensor is located on the front of the intake manifold, behind the alternator.

The temperature sending unit on 3.6L and 3.8L V6 engines is integrated into the coolant temperature sensor.

Start by partially draining the cooling system, then disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
