    Q:
How do I initiate the removal process for camshafts and timing chains in 2.7L V6 engine on Dodge Charger? Posted by Customer
    A:
To start the removal process, disconnect the battery cable and then remove valve covers. After this, take out the main timing chain and prime camshaft sprockets. This has to be followed by taking out retaining bolts from the secondary timing chain tensioner. Make sure that camshaft bearing caps are marked correctly and loosen them in opposite order before carefully removing them along with camshafts as well as a secondary timing chain and a secondary tensioner while taking note of intake and exhaust camshaft differences. Then, remove the secondary tensioner and timing chain from camshafts. The condition of camshaft secondary sprockets, chains, and tensioners will show if they have been used for a long time or not. Upon removal, observe if there is uneven wear on the camshaft bearing journals, pitting marks or evidence of seizure using a micrometer to measure them for excessive wear or out-of-round conditions by comparing them against specifications. Measure each lobe height of both intake and exhaust camlobes recording measurements for comparison for unusual variations between similar lobes. Look at the lobe surfaces of your camshafts to determine whether they are discolored by heat (temperature) or are scored (marked). You should conduct replacements in such cases. For installation purposes place colored links over marks on secondary sprockets while placing a U-shaped tool to lock it in position towards its compressed direction.Make sure all rocker arms fit within their seats properly; you can apply engine assembly lubricant on all cams lobes/journals so that these parts will sit nicely onto each other . While installing put marks facing upwards some inline with cylinder bank area where you fix an assembly that involves; These must be fastened with bearing caps/bolts fastened forthwith prior to tightening up according given sequence also here includes tightening up your tensioner mounting bolts which means-don't forget about putting maximum strength into any kind of chain when it comes to its application. If you have done these steps correctly, all that remains is to tighten the camshaft sprockets and install the primary timing chain before finishing up your installation from here on out, in reverse order.
