Make sure to add an equal amount of refrigerant oil as the amount removed with the component being replaced. Verify compatibility with the R-134a system before adding any oil. Always replace the receiver-drier when replacing the compressor.

Have the system discharged and the refrigerant recovered by a technician. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and remove the drivebelt. On V6 models, disconnect the engine wire harness connector from the compressor clutch coil and remove the bracket on top of the compressor. On four-cylinder models, disconnect the compressor clutch electrical connector.

First, discharge the system. Then, disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Next, unplug the electrical connector from the compressor clutch. Remove the drivebelt. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the compressor, making sure to plug the open fittings. Unbolt the compressor from the mounting bracket and lift it out of the vehicle. If installing a new compressor, transfer the clutch from the original one. Before installation, pour out the oil from the old compressor and add the same amount of new refrigerant oil to the new compressor. Replace all O-rings with new ones made for air conditioning systems and lubricate them with refrigerant oil. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by a professional.
