To remove the distributor, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Then, detach the primary lead from the coil and unplug the electrical connector for the Hall Effect pick-up. If the distributor has a splash shield, remove it. Locate the number one cylinder spark plug wire terminal on the distributor cap and remove the cap. Turn the engine over until the rotor is pointing towards the number one spark plug wire terminal. Make marks on the distributor base, rotor tip, and engine block for proper reinstallation. Remove the distributor hold-down bolt and clamp, then pull the distributor straight up and out. To install the distributor, ensure the lugs on the distributor shaft fit into the slots in the oil pump shaft. Check the alignment marks and rotor position, then insert the distributor into the engine. Install the hold-down clamp and bolt, followed by the distributor cap. Plug in the Hall Effect pick-up electrical connector and reattach the spark plug wires. Finally, reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery and check the ignition timing before tightening the distributor hold-down bolt securely.

Install the rotor onto the distributor shaft, apply a light coat of clean engine oil to the O-ring seal, and carefully insert the distributor into the cylinder head, ensuring it is fully seated and secured with the nuts and washers.
