    Q:
How do you check and replace the ignition switch for non-tilt and tilt columns on Chrysler Imperial? Posted by Customer
    A:
The key lock cylinder is connected to the steering column and for the non-tilt column the ignition switch is on the same column. To verify the switch, it has to be pulled out and by using an ohmmeter or self-powered test light continuity between the two terminals of the switch must be confirmed; if continuity is improper, the switch need to be replaced. For replacement, take off the negative battery cable, insert the key in the lock cylinder and rotate the cylinder to position ACE and finally remove the cover of the steering column. Sometimes the steering column has to be lowered in order to get to the switch. Disconnect the switch electrical connection, take out the bolts, then separate the switch from the actuator rod and then take it down from the steering column. Removing a switch is done vice versa to the installation where there is confirmation that the switch is connected to the actuator rod and all loose ends have been tightened thus fully tightening bolts. In Tilt Column models, the switch is located on the right side of the steering and is fixed with three special security Torx T-20 screws. As a control test, try the switch by pulling it out and using an ohmmeter or self-powered test light on continuity; if the switch is defective, replace it. For replacement, detach the negative battery terminal, remove the cover of the steering column and then remove the tamper proof screws. The switch should be detached on the column, the electric connector must be unplugged and the switch must be taken out. In case the lock cylinder has to be dismantled than turn the key to the LOCK position the retaining pin with the assistance of screwdriver until well concealed. Now turn the key anti-clockwise to the Off position to release the lock cylinder, rotate the key to the locked position, and withdrawing the key, pull out the lock cylinder from the ignition switch assembly. The processes for removing and installing the shifter are the reverse of each other: On the shifter of column shift models must be in Park position and the switch column lock flag must be parallel to electrical connectors. Place the lock cylinder at the Lock location until it is fully seated within the switch; then while holding it in its seated position, insert the key and then rotate it clockwise to the Run position.

    Q:
What are the steps for replacing the ignition switch in the 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan? Posted by Customer
    A:
    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Remove the steering column cover. 3. Take out the tamper-proof screws. 4. Detach the switch from the column. 5. Unplug the electrical connector and remove the switch. 6. If the lock cylinder needs to be removed, insert the key and turn it to the Lock position, pressing the retaining pin in with a small screwdriver until flush. 7. Turn the key to the Off position to unseat the lock cylinder, then rotate it to the Lock position, remove the key, and take out the lock cylinder from the ignition switch. 8. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that on column shift models, the shifter is in Park and the switch column lock flag is parallel with the electrical connectors. 9. Insert the lock cylinder in the Lock position until it bottoms in the switch, then while pushing it in, insert the key and turn it clockwise to the Run position.

    Q:
How can you check the operation of the system for the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan? Posted by Customer
    A:
To check the system, place the shift lever in Park and ensure the knob pushbutton is fully up, which allows the ignition key to rotate freely to Lock. Moving the shift lever to Drive should prevent the key from rotating to Lock.
