    Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the oil dipstick. For 2WD models, remove the fan and fan shroud. Remove the starter. Remove the transmission. Remove the flywheel housing and the driveplate. Remove the steering gear mounting bolts and lower the steering gear. For 4WD models, unbolt the radiator shroud but don't remove it.

    Remove the crossmember beneath the oil pan (front crossmember mounting bolts for 4WD models). If applicable, unbolt the steering gear without disconnecting the fluid lines and mark the front driveshaft position before detaching it from the front axle. Safely support the front axle with jacks at each end and remove the axle mounting bolts to lower the front axle, creating sufficient working room for oil pan removal.
