    Q:
What is the location and procedure for troubleshooting the back-up light switch on Dodge Ram 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
There is a back-up light switch on the left side of the transmission case. When you see that vehicle, put the ignition key to "ON" position and shift lever in "REVERSE." If you find out that the back-up lights are not working, go and check for any blown fuse which should be located in the engine compartment fuse and relay box. When it happens, there could be something wrong with the circuit of the back-up light's fuse. However, when it is okay replace it if it becomes necessary. Place your shift lever in REVERSE and then jack up the vehicle securely on jack stands. Get under the car and disconnect its electric connector from the reverse light switch. With an ohmmeter, test continuity between terminals of switch with an ohmmeter across terminals of switch. Continuity must exist here. When you move your shift lever into reverse gear but there is no continuity between these terminals-install a new switch! Else if continuity exists at this point in time, examine voltage at connector electrically. One of these two terminal pins ought to have power supply coming from battery with ignition key turned on to ON position". If voltage doesn't appear at all on this electrical connector at this switch-open circuit condition has occurred between engine compartment fuses & relays box and back- up-light switch connectors; while there is voltage present trace back-up light circuit between electrical connector & bulbs for open circuit condition - Note: The last possibility does not seem possible since both reverse lights are burned out Don't exclude this chance though as both backup bulbs happen to be damaged simultaneously also; furthermore don't ignore this circumstance either! Raise vehicle securely onto jackstands if not removed yet when changing safety non-contacting indicator (reverse) lamp device; remove connection coming from behind such reverse electric illuminating component or assemble (screw off) being replaced afterwards by ATV sealant/ Teflon tape should be applied around fresh threadings which help to avoid any leaks; when this switch is finally put back into transmission case make sure that it is tightened firmly at torque. The remaining part of the installation process will therefore proceed in a reverse way from how we removed earlier on.

    Q:
How can I troubleshoot the back-up light switch for the 2015 Ram 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Put the shift lever in REVERSE, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Then, working under the vehicle, disconnect the electrical connector from the back-up light switch. Use an ohmmeter to check for continuity across the terminals of the switch. If there is no continuity, replace the switch. If there is continuity, proceed to the next step.
