Chrysler Cirrus A/C Accumulator

The A/C Accumulator in Chrysler Cirrus cars are very important as they help in the proper functioning of the air conditioning system. Its primary function is to absorb moisture and retain debris in a way that ensures that corrosion and sludge which may cause system failure is prevented. The A/C Accumulator is found in two key components: The receiver drier is located in the high pressure liquid line while the accumulator is located between the evaporator and the compressor. In Chrysler Cirrus vehicles, A/C Accumulator has come in two styles; the receiver drier and the accumulator. All of them has the same general function but they are located in different areas within the A/C system. These components are critical and should be replaced on a regular basis especially after main A/C service to prevent problems like; inaccurate gauge readings and possible leakage among others. The A/C Accumulator plays a very important role in the integrity of the Chrysler Cirrus AC system.

Chrysler Cirrus A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the receiver-drier on Chrysler Cirrus?
A: The A/C Accumulator, which acts as a reservoir for the system refrigerant, is located on the right side of the engine compartment, next to the Radiator and condenser. The system should be discharged before starting the removal process. The negative battery cable should be disconnected from the ground stud on the left shock tower. The refrigerant lines from the A/C Accumulator should be disconnected using a back-up wrench to prevent damage to the fittings and twisting the tubing where it joins the condenser. The open fittings should be plugged to prevent entry of dirt and moisture. The bracket bolt at the base of the A/C Accumulator should be removed, the aluminum clamp spread, and the A/C Accumulator removed. Installation is the reverse of removal. If a new A/C Accumulator is being installed, add one ounce of refrigerant oil to it before installation. The vehicle should be taken back to the shop that discharged it. The system should be evacuated, recharged, and leak tested.
