  • Q: How to remove and install parking brake cables on Chrysler Imperial?
    A: Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jack-stands. Working under the vehicle, loosen the adjusting nut until there's slack in the cables. Detach the rear end of the front cable from the connector that attaches it to the middle cable. From inside the vehicle, remove the driver's side kick panel. Pull up the forward end of the front cable and disconnect it. Pinch the cable retainer with needle-nose pliers and pull it down through the cable retaining bracket. Pull the cable assembly through the grommet in the hole in the floor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Adjust the parking brake. Remove the rear wheels and the hub/drum assemblies. Back off the equalizer adjusting nut until the cable is slack. Disconnect the rear brake cable from the brake shoe lever. Locate the retainer at the end of the rear cable, where it enters the brake shoe backing plate. Pinch this retainer with pliers and pull the retainer through the backing plate. Remove the cable lock from the brake cable support bracket on the trailing arm and detach the cable from the trailing arm assembly. Disconnect the rear brake cable from the connector at the end of the middle cable. The above procedure also applies to the other rear cable. Installation is the reverse of removal. Adjust the parking brake. Remove the caliper and Brake Disc. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the lever on the parking brake shoe. Compress the retainer on the end of the cable housing with pliers or a hose clamp and feed the cable through the retaining hole in the adapter.
