A: Park the vehicle with the front wheels in the straight-ahead position. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the two airbag module retaining screws and lift off the airbag module. Unplug the electrical connectors for the airbag, horn, and other components. Remove the steering wheel bolt and mark the relationship of the steering wheel hub to the steering shaft. Reinstall the steering wheel bolt and leave a generous gap between the head of the bolt and the steering wheel. Use a puller to remove the steering wheel. CAUTION: Don't thread the bolts of the puller into this steering wheel more than five turns, as they could contact the airbag clock spring and damage it. CAUTION: Any attempt to remove the steering wheel without using a puller can damage the steering column. Make certain that all electrical connectors are disconnected before lifting the steering wheel off the hub. If it is necessary to remove the clockspring, remove the steering column covers, unplug the electrical connectors for the clockspring, remove the mounting screws, and lift the clockspring from the steering column. When installing the clockspring, make absolutely sure that the airbag clockspring is centered with the arrows on the clockspring rotor and case lined up. Note: The Durango models do not have arrows; just make certain that the alignment dowel that engages the steering wheel is down and the pigtail wire is at the top. This shouldn't be a problem as long as you have not turned the steering shaft while the wheel was removed. lf for some reason the shaft was turned, center the clock spring as follows:Rotate the clockspring clockwise until it stops.Rotate the clockspring counterclockwise about 2-1/2 turns until the arrows on the clockspring rotor and case line up. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following points:Make sure the airbag clockspring is centered before installing the steering wheel. When installing the steering wheel, align the marks on the shaft and the steering wheel hub.Install a NEW steering wheel bolt and tighten it to the torque.Install the airbag module on the steering wheel and tighten the mounting screws securely.Enable the airbag system.
