The trim panels from the sides of the trunk should be removed to access the shock absorber upper mounting fasteners.

To disassemble the strut and spring assembly, you need to mount the strut clevis bracket portion in a vise and mark the components for reassembly. Then, install a spring compressor on the spring and compress it to relieve pressure from the upper mount. While holding the damper shaft, loosen the shaft nut with a socket. Remove the nut and upper mount, inspecting the pivot bearing and upper spring seat for damage. Lift the compressed spring from the assembly and remove the dust boot from the damper shaft. Slide the rubber bumper off the damper shaft and check the lower spring isolator for damage.

Remove the nut and upper mount, inspecting the pivot bearing and upper spring seat for damage. Lift the compressed spring from the assembly and remove the dust boot from the damper shaft. Slide the rubber bumper off the damper shaft and check the lower spring isolator for damage.

After installing the strut assembly and retaining clip, the steering knuckle and related fasteners should be tightened.

Remove the shock through the bottom of the spring and inspect all parts for damage. Install the parts on the new shock in the correct order. Install the washer and damper shaft nut, tightening it while holding the damper shaft with a wrench.

After removing the shock absorber upper mounting bolts, the shock absorber assembly should be removed from the vehicle.

The flex hose mounting bracket should be detached from the strut.

Compress the coil spring with a spring compressor, following the tool manufacturer's instructions. Compress the spring until tension is removed from the upper bracket.
