The knock sensor for V6 engines is positioned on top of the block, nestled in the valley between the cylinder heads, beneath the intake manifold, with 3.6L models utilizing two sensors: There are knock sensor 1 at the front and knock sensor 2 at the rear of the vehicle. To 2.7L and 3.5L engines, the first procedure includes releasing the fuel pressure and then, the loss of the battery cable connection. In 2.7L and 3.6L engines, it is necessary to disassemble both the upper and the lower intake manifolds, in case of the 3.5L engines, the upper intake manifold has only to be dismantled. For the 2007 and pre-2008 2.7L engines it is necessary to remove the right cylinder head and for 2008 and post 2008 2.7L engines it is only necessary to disconnect the hoses and water outlet tube which is located beneath the intake ports on the cylinder heads to the knock sensors. In 3.6L engines, it is recommended that oil filter housing should be removed. Remove the electrical connector from the knock sensor and for 2007 and earlier 2.7L engine models, unscrew the sensor from the cylinder head while for 3.5L and 3.6L model remove the mounting fastener to pull out the knock sensor or sensors. The mounting bolts used for knock must not be over or under tightened because they directly influence the performance of shock absorbers and the capacity of the PCM to control sparks. Installation is reversed in the order of removal and thus maintaining the right torque on the knock sensor/fastener. The knock sensors are installed for the V8 engines on two sides of the block and below the exhaust manifold. Shove the front of the vehicle up on jackstands and take off the galvanized heat shield that covers up the knock sensor. Unplug the electrical connector of the knock sensor, take out the bolt and the sensor. All the foam strips located on the mounting bolt threads are meant for tight fixation of the bolt during assembly, there is no need to apply any adhesive or sealant. Likewise, do not overtighten or loose the mounting bolts for the effective working of the sensor or overtorque while re-tightening.

On 2.4L engines, remove the intake manifold (2014 and earlier) or the exhaust manifold (2015 and later). Disconnect the electrical connector(s) from the knock sensor(s). Remove the mounting bolt(s) and detach the sensor(s). Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the knock sensor to the specified torque.

To replace the knock sensors, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector. Remove the intake manifold and then remove the knock sensor assembly by removing the mounting bolts. Disconnect the electrical connector from the knock sensor and remove the mounting bolt.

To disconnect the knock sensors, disconnect the cable(s) from the negative battery terminal(s). For the 3.6L V6, remove the intake manifolds and disconnect the electrical connector before removing the sensor(s) mounting bolt(s). Finally, install the knock sensor(s) by reversing the removal process.

Finally, install the knock sensor(s) by reversing the removal process and tightening the mounting bolts.

The knock sensor is located on the side of the engine block, in front of the starter, under the intake manifold.
