Chrysler Imperial Shock Absorber

Another important component of Chrysler Imperial automotive design is the Shock Absorber responsible for the smoothness of car's bounces mainly within a car's suspension system. The Shock Absorber operates by turning kinetic motion into heat so as to reduce and decrease shock impulses on the car body thus enhancing handling of the car on rugged terrain. Chrysler Imperial models have incorporated different Shock Absorbers such as, The twin-tube and the mono-tube. Twin-tube shocks are numerous and are usually constructed in a simple manner which can be pressurized with gas to increase its life expectant. On the other hand, mono-tube shocks will provide better heat transfer and great performance due to multiple mounting direction. Further improvements made on the Shock Absorber depend on the advanced technologies of PSD and ASD in adjusting the Shock Absorber's function according to the road conditions, meanwhile, the electrorheological and magnetorheological dampers allow Chrysler Imperial to have semi-active suspension systems that make the vehicles more comfortable and controllable.

Chrysler Imperial Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace struts and springs on Chrysler Imperial?
A: This procedure does not apply to models equipped with automatic air suspension. Take the vehicle to a dealer service department or other qualified shop for strut replacement on these models. Note: You'll need a spring compressor for this procedure. Spring compressors are available on a daily rental basis at most auto parts stores or equipment yards. If the struts or coil springs exhibit the telltale signs of wear (leaking fluid, loss of damping capability, chipped, sagging or cracked coil springs), explore all options before beginning any work. The strut insert assemblies are not serviceable and must be replaced if a problem develops. However, strut assemblies complete with springs may be available on an exchange basis, which eliminates much time and work. Whichever route you choose to take, check on the cost and availability of parts before disassembling your vehicle. Remove the strut and spring assembly. Mount the strut assembly in a vise. Line the vise jaws with wood or rags to prevent damage to the unit and don't tighten the vise excessively. Install the spring compressor in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Compress the spring until you can wiggle the mount assembly and spring seat. To loosen the damper shaft nut, hold the shaft with a box-end wrench while loosening the shaft nut with another box-end wrench. Disassemble the strut assembly and lay out the parts in exactly the same order. Note: Mark the spring so it can be reinstalled on the same side of the vehicle from which it was removed. Inspect all rubber parts for damage, cracking and hardness and replace as necessary. Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly. Be careful not to damage the damper shaft or the strut will leak. When installing the spring, be sure the spring ends mesh with the spring anti-rotation stops provided by the spring upper and lower seats.
