A: Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Disconnect the CMP sensor electrical connector. Remove the CMP sensor retaining bolts and remove the CMP sensor. Remove the screw that attaches the target magnet to the camshaft and then remove the target magnet. When installing the target magnet, make sure that the locating dowels on the back of the magnet are aligned with the locating holes in the end of the camshaft. Tighten the target magnet retaining screw to the specified torque. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the CMP sensor retaining bolts to the specified torque. For 3.3L/3.8L V6 models, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the air intake duct and the air filter housing. Disconnect the CMP sensor electrical connector. Remove the CMP sensor mounting bolt. Rotate the CMP sensor away from the block, then pull it up and out of the timing chain cover. If reinstalling the same sensor, remove the paper spacer from the end of the sensor. Remove the old O-ring from the CMP sensor. If installing the old CMP sensor, clean off the sensor face and install a new paper spacer on the face before installing the sensor. Inspect the old O-ring for damage and replace if necessary. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the O-ring, then carefully install the CMP sensor in the timing chain cover and rotate it into position. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the CMP sensor mounting bolt to the specified torque.
