Chrysler Town & Country Ignition Lock Cylinder

The Ignition Lock Cylinder in Chrysler Town & Country cars is a vital starting system since it has the capacity of holding the key that is used to start the vehicle. This mechanism is actually incorporated in the key ignition switch wherein electrical power is supplied to the required systems when the key is turned to the right position. Chrysler Town & Country cars of old models were equipped with conventional ignition lock cylinder that was mounted on the column, and all these had the intent of increasing security against car jackers. With time, technological improvements have brought about change where new Chrysler Town & Country models have new keyless ignition systems, which do not need lock cylinders and key, but rather the keyless entry fobs that have to send signals to the car's microprocessor. Compared to the previous models of ignition lock cylinders that require physical key and the tumbler, the presented systems are more convenient and less prone to failure as they incorporate fewer components. However, challenges including the wear and defects of the ignition lock cylinder still persist whereby the functionality of the vehicles require repair from time to time.

Chrysler Town & Country Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you disconnect and reinstall the ignition switch and key lock cylinder on Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Take off the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Takeaway the knee bolster and the steering column covers, if any. Rotate the ignition lock cylinder to the ON position, press the ignition lock cylinder retaining tab, and take out the ignition lock cylinder. Lay in the upper and lower steering column covers. Switch on the ignition by turning the key and fit the ignition lock cylinder as well. Screw the cable on the negative terminal of the battery. Cautiously unscrew the one Torx sized head mounting screw used for the ignition switch. Push down the ignition switch retaining tabs and thus release the switch from the steering column. Pull the connector from the ignition switch releasing the connector tab; do not bend the connector. Prior to connecting the vessel to the ignition switch make sure that the ignition key is in ON position and the actuator shaft of the ignition lock cylinder housing is to ON. Another is when placing the ignition switch unto the actuator shaft the switch will go over the two retaining tabs. Be certain that the square receptacle in the ignition switch is in the ON position, line the receptacle and its actuator shaft before pushing the switch over the ignition lock cylinder housing until the tabs are locked. Fit in the upper and the lower steering column covers and then ground terminal of the battery to the cable connected to them.
