Dodge Avenger Vacuum Pump

The Vacuum Pump in Dodge Avenger vehicles is used to drive number of vacuum assisted elements in automotive like power brake booster and HVAC Booster. They produce vacuum by removing air from the brake booster as well as otherrelated systems to enhance their efficiency in the car. It is not clear what type of vacuum pump is used in the Dodge Avenger, but there are mechanical pumps that are driven by the engine via the camshaft or the alternator whereas the modern models of vacuum pumps increase efficiency without the need to utilizing the engine power source. Mechanical vacuum pumps are oil injected, and work well for vehicles which the intake manifold can't pull a vacuum, new cars with direct injection, or turbos. In their stead there is a tendency towards the use of electrical vacuum pumps which are present in many of the latest models, thus offering a more steady source of vacuum. Vacuum pump must function correctly because problems may arise, for instance, hard brake pedal and climate control problems that require proper diagnosis and replacement for performance enhancement.

Dodge Avenger Vacuum Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Remove the Vacuum Pump on Dodge Avenger?
A: 2015 and later models are equipped with either a mechanical or electric brake vacuum pump. The mechanical pump is driven by the rear end of the camshaft and mounted on the left end of the cylinder head on 2.4L engines, and the electric pump on 3.6L engines is located at the left side of the engine and secured to a bracket by two mounting bolts. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Be careful not to damage the plastic vacuum pump hose connector fitting. Also, oil may leak from the pump so be sure to have plenty of rags ready to soak up spills. Remove the engine cover, then disconnect the quick-connect hose fitting from the pump. Remove the vacuum pump mounting bolts, then carefully separate the pump from the cylinder head. Discard the old O-ring seals. Remove the retaining screw and separate the plastic connector piece from the pump. Check and replace the O-ring on the fitting, if necessary.
