Dodge Magnum Ignition Coil

Dodge Magnum cars contain the Ignition Coil that is responsible for the transformation of 12 volts current from the battery into high voltage (15,000 - 40,000 volts) capable of igniting air/fuel mixture present in the engine's cylinders. Electrical - This component provides the direct connection between the first and second circuits of the ignition system and is made of insulated copper wire coiled in a iron core to produce the necessary volt. There are numerous types of coils used in Dodge Magnum vehicles right from traditional distributor ignition systems, distributor-less ignition system (DIS) and the contemporary coil-on- Plug (COP) systems. The main difference between the two systems is the number of coils used, DIS systems use multiple coils in a pack while COP systems use a single coil for each cylinder thus increasing efficiency as there are no high tension leads. Ignition coils that are not effectively working can possibly cause different problems such as misfires, poor running, and high fuel consumption which are some of the reasons why ignition coil is crucial in the functioning of Dodge Magnum.

Dodge Magnum Ignition Coil Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How Can I Swap a Ignition Coil on a Dodge Magnum?
A: If a coil is misfiring or not firing at all, or causing the PCM to set a DTC indicating a misfire, try swapping it with an adjacent coil. If the suspect coil was causing a DTC for one cylinder, it will likely set the same DTC when installed above another cylinder, indicating a defective coil. For V6 engines, removing the rear ignition coil on the left cylinder head requires removing the air intake duct or upper intake manifold. Disconnect the electrical connector from the coil, remove the mounting screw, and pull off the coil. Installation is the reverse. For V8 engines, remove the engine cover and disconnect the electrical connector and spark plug wire boot for the companion cylinder. Remove the coil mounting bolts and carefully pull up with a twisting motion to disengage the rubber spark plug boots. Inspect the condition of the rubber spark plug boot and replace if necessary. Installation is the reverse.
