Shake the removed valve to check for a rattle. If it doesn't, it's clogged and needs replacement. Look for oil and sludge deposits on the valve and hose. For V6 engines, detach the hose and unscrew the valve from the intake manifold or valve cover. For V8 engines, twist and undo the valve from the intake manifold.
